Men's Tennis Wins 7-2 at Northwestern Ohio

The Warriors claimed their sixth-straight victory.

LIMA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (6-1 overall, 0-0 GLIAC) claimed a 7-2 victory at Northwestern Ohio (4-3 overall, 1-0 WHAC) on Friday afternoon.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, against Radu Popa and Marcos Salazar.

Freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) and redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) were the next to finish at No. 3 doubles, falling 8-6 to Lars Kaplusch and David Ayguavives.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) claimed an 8-4 victory over Artur Culicovschi and Santiago Ortiz.

SINGLES RESULTS
Karcz notched a victory over Popa at the first flight (6-3, 6-1).

Renaudie blanked Salazar in the first set, winning his No. 3 singles match (6-0, 6-4).

At No. 5 singles, Rink claimed a win against Ayguavives (6-3, 6-3).

Mertz won his No. 4 singles match in a third set versus Kaplusch (3-6, 6-2, 10-5).

At No. 2 singles, Vane fell in a third set against Culicovschi (6-4, 6-7(1), 4-6).

Sammons was the last off the courts, winning his No. 6 singles match against Ortiz (6-4, 6-2).

WSU will play Hillsdale on Sunday, March 3, in a 12:00 p.m. match.
