DETROIT –The Wayne State University women's tennis squad overpowered league opponent Ashland, 9-0, in its first match of the 2015-16 season.
DOUBLES • Freshmen
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) competed in their first collegiate match winning 8-2 over Ashland's Zdenka Pozo and Martina Baca at No. 1 doubles.
• Senior co-captain
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) posted an 8-2 win at second doubles.
• Juniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) beat the Eagles' Meghann Fitzpatrick and Natalie Keron, 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
SINGLES• Poissant took 6-1 wins in both sets at No. 2 singles, while Mitrache posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top singles flight.
• Sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) and Kuznetsova recorded 6-2, 6-4 wins at No. 5 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
• Freshman
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) made her collegiate debut at No. 6 singles, defeating Ashland's Keron, 6-0, 6-1, while Peisachovitz won 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.

UP NEXT• Wayne State will play conference opponent Walsh on Sunday, Sept. 6 with a 10 a.m. start at the WSU Tennis Courts. The Warriors beat the Cavilers, 8-1 sweeping the doubles matches last season.
