DETROIT -- The 13th-ranked Wayne State University baseball team (23-5 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) hosted Purdue Northwest (10-14 overall, 6-3 GLIAC) in the first of four games on Friday and the Warriors used a five-run seventh inning to storm back and win, 6-3. WSU will play its next seven games at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pride scored a run in the top of the fourth inning on two hits and two walks.
Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-run single gave PNW a 3-1 advantage in the top of the sixth inning.
Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School), Jorah and
Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) all reached to start the bottom of the seventh inning.
Justin Kelly (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) drew a bases-loaded walk to collect an RBI before
Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.) sent a two-run single off the wall in left to give WSU a 4-3 lead.
Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) added to the home advantage with a two-run single into left center.
AT THE PLATE
Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Jorah finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
ON THE MOUND
Hunter Brown (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) (5-0) allowed three earned runs in seven innings and struck out nine batters.
Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) earned his first career save by not allowing a run over the final two frames.
