Ferris State Tops Lewis To Stay Perfect In Regular-Season Competition This Spring

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad got back to action in a big way on Saturday (March 13) night as the Bulldogs topped Lewis (Ill.) by a 6-1 score in regional action in Plainfield, Ill.

The Bulldogs ran their winning streak to five consecutive matches to open the year and are now a perfect 5-0 in regular-season play this spring. The match was the Bulldogs' first in nearly two weeks.

The match was a final tune-up for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season play and matched an identical 6-1 triumph over the Flyers recorded by the Bulldog women's tennis squad on Saturday evening at the Five-Star Tennis Center in Illinois.

Ferris State came out blazing early by taking all three doubles flights in convincing fashion for the initial point in the match. The closest score came by a 6-3 margin at both the one and two doubles spots with the third flight decided 6-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Then, in singles play, FSU emerged victorious in five of the six flights with the lone point for the Flyers coming in a three-set triumph at three singles. The other five spots in the lineup all went to the Bulldogs in straight-sets.

Ferris State opens GLIAC play at home against Wayne State on Friday, March 19, starting at 4 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs then host Ashland on Saturday, March 20, starting at 3 p.m. (ET) to wrap up the opening weekend of conference action.
