Michigan Tech edges UMary in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Michigan Tech swept doubles and earned three singles wins to defeat the University of Mary Marauders 4-3 in non-conference women's tennis at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando Florida Sunday.

"UMary had some crafty players but we were able to sneak out a win," said head coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep. "Hopefully, we'll continue to have a good week."

Neva Manas and Ewa Podulka did not drop a game at No. 3 doubles and the Huskies led 3-0 with retirements at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles. Marina Fernandez defeated Sam Purpura 6-0, 6-0 for the deciding point at No. 6. Dominika Bobik battled Chloe Chong to a third-set super-tiebreak at No. 1 singles but fell 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

The Huskies (2-2) continue in Orlando this week against Augustana (S.D.) Monday.
