HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team shut out Purdue Northwest 3-0 on Friday (Oct. 1) at Kearly Stadium. The Huskies got first-half goals from Stephanie Yeager and Emily Zeitunian. Allison Thelen added an insurance goal in the second half.

The Huskies got the first tally in the game at the ten-minute mark when Yeager took advantage of a free-kick and snuck one top left past the goalkeeper for her second of the season.

Emily Zeitunian made it 2-0 with her first goal of the season in the final minutes of the first half. After a fast break and shot on goal from Allison Thelen, Zeitunian grabbed the rebound and punched the ball into the back of the net.

Allison Thelen added to the lead in the 56th minute after a scramble on a corner kick. The Huskies outshot the Pride 25-6 for the game. The Black and Gold held a 10-1 edge for shots on goal.

"It was a phenomenal team win," Assistant Coach Cora Essenmacher said. "We got to get players in the game that might not normally come in. It was big to bounce back and get the team's morale up heading into Sunday."

"It was a great team effort. We got a lot of legs in, had a lot of pretty passes, and got the job done." Zeitunian said. "It was great to get a goal, but I have to credit Allison Thelen for getting the shot off. It was a great play by her."

Michigan Tech will be home again this Sunday (Oct. 3) to take on Northern Michigan at noon. NMU is 4-4 and 2-2 in the GLIAC on the season. The game will be broadcast on FOX-UP and TV6 with Mark Evans and Dave Ellis on the call.
