SVSU posts 7-0 shutout over Parkside in GLIAC opener

KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team won its first GLIAC matchup against Parkside with a shutout, 7-0. The Cardinals improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play.

SVSU had goals from six different players with the first goal coming at the 5' mark when Allison Sims found Brianna Bishop to give the Cardinals the early lead, 1-0, over Parkside. 

The second goal came from Sakura Bals who found the back of the net in the 33' on a feed from Sara Samolinski to put Saginaw Valley up, 2-0. The Cardinals would add one more score before halftime on an unassisted goal from Natalie Nitschmann at the 41' mark.

SVSU kept the offensive pressure on as they opened the second half with a score from Molly Vanderhoff who found the net for a solo goal to put the Cards up, 4-0. The Parkside defense had a tough time defending the drive from SVSU and would allow another goal at the 59' mark on a look from Valentina Giambanco to Jennifer Muana furthering the lead, 5-0. Saginaw Valley's sixth goal would come from Sakura Bals, her second of the match, on a feed from Whitney Fleming to give the Cardinals a 6-0 edge. Flemming would set SVSU up for a seventh goal coming in the 87' mark on a pass to Andrea Lopez improving lead to 7-0. This score would hold true through the final three minutes of play with SVSU winning with a final count of 7-0.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Sakura Bals had three shots all of which were on goal, with two of them finding the net
  • Brianna Bishop found the net once and had two shots in the match
  • Molly Vanderhoff had five shots in the match, three shots on goal, and one goal
  • Whitney Fleming led the team in assists and shots with two and six respectively 
  • Alyssa Watts (1-0-0) picked up the win in goal, stopping the only shot on goal that she faced.
