Ferris State Men's Tennis Dominates Singles Action At Purdue Northwest Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team finished the fall campaign in strong fashion as play wrapped up on Sunday (Oct. 17) at the Purdue Northwest Invitational held in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs finished the two-day event with six of the eight finalists in the four singles flights combined. FSU also won three of the flights in the singles event.

FSU's Mathis Guerre was the individual champion in Flight A singles action with Jan Koupil claiming the Flight B championship. Meanwhile, freshman Alessandro Santangelo took the Flight D crown and Josh McDermott was the runner-up in Flight C singles competition.

Additionally, each of the Bulldogs' doubles squads posted 1-1 marks on the weekend.

"I'm so impressed with this group of guys and the way they performed," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "They worked very hard as a group and did so while I was in Georgia with our two women's players at the ITA Cup Championships. Overall, a great weekend for them."

The Bulldogs' Yannic Alexander Mader also earned runner-up accolades in Flight A singles action while Alec Olivier was the runner-up in Flight D with both falling against their own teammates.

The Bulldogs will continue their 2021-22 season in the spring with non-league action set to begin in February prior to the start of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) season in March.
