BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball's underdog postseason run came to an end in the GLIAC Championship 79-66 against No. 3 seed Northern Michigan at Jim Wink Arena Sunday.

The Huskies led by two at halftime, but Wildcats' potent offense struck back after the break and four players made it to double-figures.

Sam Schultz led NMU with 17 points. Dylan Kuehl and Max Weisbrod added 14 points apiece. The Huskies (10-20) shot 44.6 percent overall and were out-rebounded 38-29.

"They (NMU) wanted to run us off the line and we missed a lot of baskets at the rim in both halves," said head coach Josh Buettner. "In the second half when we got in the paint we just didn't finish. Some of it is strength and some of it is touch, but we need to get better in that area."

Dan Gherezgher led the Huskies with 15 points and Dawson Nordgaard came off the bench to collect 14 points in 14 minutes after shooting 7 of 7 from the floor.

"Really happy for Dawson. I'm hoping he can use this as a springboard for the future, use the confidence to really fall in love with the game and go to work this summer. He has a chance to be a really good player in this league. He's continued to get better all year."

Head coach Matt Majkrzak and Northern Michigan captured their first GLIAC Tournament title in 23 years. Michigan Tech's season came to a close Sunday after the No. 8 seeded Huskies downed No. 1 seed Parkside in the quarterfinals and No. 5 Grand Valley State Saturday. Tech finished with three wins in their final six games.

"The whole second half of the season was a great effort," Buettner reflected. "We played way better basketball than the first time through the conference calendar. These guys worked hard and never gave up. They kept believing that if we could get into the tournament anything could happen, and we made it all the way to the championship. I'm really proud of this group. Now they know what they have to do to get better."
