Ferris State Drops League Road Showdown At Parkside In Thursday Evening Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad built a five-point halftime lead, but could not hold on as host Parkside came up with a big second half to garner a 86-66 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday (Feb. 2) night at DeSimone Gymnasium in Somers, Wis.

After an early Parkside start, the Bulldogs fought back and built a late first-half advantage while taking a 37-32 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, the Rangers responded in a big way and outscored the Bulldogs 54-29 the rest of the way to win the showdown atop the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings.

The two teams entered the game tied atop the GLIAC with Parkside now owing a one-game lead over FSU, Northern Michigan and Lake Superior State following Thursday's action.

The Bulldogs fell to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the GLIAC while the Rangers improved to 16-6 overall and 9-3 in league play.

Parkside finished nine-of-12 (75%) from three-point range and finished shooting 63.6% overall from the floor in the triumph. UWP also finished with a 37-32 rebounding edge.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs made 33.3% of their field goals and went seven-of-27 (25.9%) from deep along with 15-of-19 (78.9%) at the free throw line.

Solomon Oraegbu paced the Bulldogs with 16 points while Mykel Bingham added 13 points and Amari Lee finished with 12 points off the bench.

The Rangers were led by Jamir Simpson with 21 points and Josiah Palmer with 20 points.

Ferris State returns to the floor on Saturday (Feb. 4) against Purdue Northwest starting at 4 p.m. (ET) in Hammond, Ind.
