Ferris State Battles Back To Tie It Late But Falls At Wayne State

Detroit, Mich. - A late triple by freshman wing Jimmy Scholler pulled the Ferris State University men's basketball team even with nine seconds to play, but the Wayne State Warriors hit a shot in the final two seconds to take a 70-68 win to cap the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season at the Matthaei Complex on Saturday (Feb. 27).

Ferris State senior wing Walt Kelser had 18 points to lead the Bulldogs while Scholler chipped in 13 to go with eight rebounds and six assists.

The Bulldogs took a 10-point deficit into halftime, but outscored the Warriors 38-30 in the second frame. Ferris State took advantage of the offensive glass with 16 offensive boards, scoring 20 second chance points to Wayne State's five in the game. 

Ferris State senior post Logan Ryan also had 10 points to go with five rebounds while senior wing Michael Peterson had eight points and eight boards in the contest.

The Bulldogs shot 31.3 percent in the opening frame and improved to 40.5 percent the second frame. 

Wayne State shot 44.6 from the field on the day and 35.7 percent from deep.

For Wayne State, Avery Lewis had 24 points to lead the way. Brailen Neely added 18. Darian Owens-White hit the game-winning shot with two seconds to play for the Warriors.

The Bulldogs got 19 points off the bench to the Warriors' six.
