Cardinals hold off Hawks for 2-1 win

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over the Quincy University Hawks on Sunday at Braddock Field to move to 2-0-0 overall.

SVSU got on the board first when Ashley Myall found Sara Samolinski on the right side of the field. Samolinski struck the ball over the goalie to make it 1-0 Cardinals in the 14th minute. The Hawks answered in the 24th minute and the game was tied 1-1 going into the halftime break.

In the second half, Gabby Green found Amy Babon for her second goal of the season to make it 2-1 in the 55th minute. The Cardinals had several chances to pull away down the stretch, including a Babon header off the crossbar, but SVSU was able to hang on for the win. 

Olivia Argeros got the start in goal for SVSU and made three saves for her second win of the season. The Cardinals outshot the Hawks 24-8. 

The Cardinals hit the road for the first time this season to face Walsh University at 5:30 pm Friday in North Canton, Ohio.
