Lacrosse embarks on first road GLIAC trip of 2019

Golden Bears look for early edge in GLIAC standings

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend, Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (4-3, 1-1 GLIAC) faces its first conference road games of the season, heading to Maryville (Mo.) on Friday and McKendree (Ill.) on Sunday.

The Golden Bears face the Saints on Friday evening at 5 p.m. before a noon start at McKendree on Sunday. Concordia is coming off of a 12-9 conference win on Sunday over Davenport and is one of five teams tied at 1-1 in the GLIAC standings. Nationally ranked #12 Indianapolis is atop the league at 3-0, a half game ahead of #22 Grand Valley State at 2-0.

Maryville is off to an 0-3 GLIAC start to the 2019 campaign in its inaugural season while McKendree is one of the five teams tied at 1-1, splitting its opening weekend at home.

The Saints are 1-5 overall, with their first win a 12-11 overtime victory in their second game of the year at home over Oklahoma Baptist. They also have narrow losses at Lewis (8-7) and at home against Ashland (14-9).

Concordia has faced McKendree three times in the previous two seasons, falling on the road 19-2 in the inaugural 2017 campaign before a narrow 11-10 loss on the road last season and a 22-10 defeat at home.

The Golden Bears are led by junior Alina Boyce who ranks 10th in the league with 15 goals, one more than junior teammate Maddie Hentges who is 13th in the GLIAC. Hentges leads CSP with 20 total points, ranking 12th in the league while Boyce with 19 is 14th. Concordia's top distributor is junior Kaci Reid with seven assists, ranking 13th in the conference.

In the middle, sophomore Lexi Stanley leads the club and is ninth in the conference with 23 draw controls while adding 12 ground balls (15th GLIAC) and six caused turnovers (15th GLIAC). Junior Tia Zachman's seven caused turnovers lead the defense, adding four ground balls.

The Golden Bears feature the league leader in ground balls, junior goalie Katie Lottsfeldt with 24. She's also third in the league with a 45.4 save percentage, fifth with an 11.8 goals against average and fourth with 44 total saves.
