Ferris State Pulls Away In Second Half For Big Regional Home Win Over Findlay

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad registered a big regional home win on Monday (Dec. 19) night as the Bulldogs pulled away for a 101-85 victory over the Findlay Oilers inside Jim Wink Arena.

The first half saw the two longtime regional powers battle back-and-forth, with FSU eventually taking a 45-44 halftime lead. The opening stanza featured 15 lead changes the score was tied nine times.

In the second half, though, Ferris State broke the game open behind the shooting of sophomore guard Ethan Erickson and senior guard Ben Davidson. The two combined for 44 points and made 11 three's in the win. FSU outscored Findlay 56-41 in the second half.

Erickson paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 25 points and went seven-of-10 from long range while Davidson added 10 points and made four-of-six three's. Overall, Ferris State finished 15-of-25 (60%) from behind the three-point arc.

A total of five Bulldogs reached double figures as Erickson and Davidson were joined by Solomon Oraegbu with 14 points. Mykel Bingham added 13 points off the bench and Reece Hazelton totaled 11 points in the game.

Ferris State shot an impressive 61.1% from the field, including an 18-of-26 (69.2%) second half showing. FSU also went 20-of-27 (74.1%) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs distributed the ball well with 25 assists in the contest, including eight from Jimmy Scholler and five by Amari Lee. The Bulldogs also had nine steals and a pair of blocks.

Findlay had four players reach double-digits and Nathan Bruns totaled a team-best 22 points. The Oilers shot 54.4% from the floor and made eight-of-24 (33.3%) three's along with 15-of-19 (78.9%) free throws.

Ferris State finished with a 32-21 rebounding margin and the Bulldogs pulled down 10 offensive boards. The Bulldogs outscored Findlay 23-9 on the break and FSU got 56 points from its reserves compared to only 13 for the Oilers.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 8-4 overall this year.

The Bulldogs will return from the holiday break as they host Fanshawe on Thursday, Dec. 29, starting at 7 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
