UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team hosted Concordia University -Ann Arbor for a single, 9-inning game on Thursday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and held CUAA off the board the entire way for a 4-0 win. The victory pushes SVSU to 8-6 overall this season.
SVSU opened the game with the first five batters reaching base. Hayden Jatczak put up the biggest hit of the first inning, a two-run double to the gap. The Cardinals scored the third run in the first on a wild pitch.
The game remained a 3-0 lead for SVSU until another CUAA wild pitch in the eighth inning gave the home team an insurance run.
Jatczak (3-1) got the win on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out 10. Tyler McLaren earned the three-inning save, giving up just three hits and walking three while striking out one.
SVSU returns to action against Cornerstone University at 1:05 pm Saturday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
