KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (8-8 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) fell, 83-77, at Parkside (10-6 overall, 7-1 GLIAC) on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State opened the contest with six consecutive points.  After a Parkside bucket, seniors Sadia Johnson (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Central) and Nastassja Chambers (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Arbor Prep) each responded with a layup giving the Warriors a 10-2 lead.  The next few minutes were nearly even before Chambers drained a basket from beyond the arc with 1:47 on the clock putting WSU ahead 17-12.  UWP tallied the final five points of the stanza to knot the score at 17-17 after 10 minutes.

Johnson began the second period with a triple, but Parkside regained the lead after a seven-point run (24-20).  Following a free throw by Johnson at the 7:38 mark, the Rangers responded with two long-distance buckets in a span of 23 seconds to lead 30-21.  WSU held UWP scoreless over the next 5:01, turning a 30-21 deficit into a 33-30 advantage.  Wayne State was outscored 8-6 in the final two minutes before intermission, but the Green and Gold led by one point (39-38) at the half.

Parkside made two layups in the first 40 seconds of the third quarter to lead 42-39.  Junior Tori Perez (Belleville, Mich.) cut the deficit to one on two occasions, before UWP made back-to-back triples which gave the hosts a 50-43 advantage.  After a Chambers jumper at the 6:31 mark, pulled the Warriors within five (50-45), the deficit remained at least four until sophomore Kate Sherwood (Canton, Mich. / Belleville) made two fouls with 2:46 remaining in the period.  Parkside scored the final five points to conclude the stanza for a 65-55 lead after 30 minutes.

Wayne State outscored the Rangers 6-2 in the initial 2:31 of the final quarter, including a triple by senior Alex Matus (Millbury, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) and a conventional three-point play from sophomore Grace George (DeWitt, Mich.).  UWP connected on a basket from long distance, but George made a layup, followed by a triple by Chambers and the Warriors were within four at 70-66.  This would be the closest WSU would be for the remainder of the contest.  A seven-point Parkside spurt was responded with a triple by Johnson, followed by a layup from Chambers to make it 77-71.  The teams each scored six points over the final three minutes  WSU dropped the contest, 83-77.
