HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball fell 76-42 to Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at SDC Gymnasium in non-conference action. It was the team's first loss by 25 points or more since February 16, 2019.

"All the credit to them. I didn't think we would have the issues we did scoring," said head coach Josh Buettner. "They doubled Owen (White) and didn't allow him to get into a rhythm. We didn't do a good enough job getting spaced and getting our shooters good looks. Then when we did, shots didn't fall. As a team, we have to decide what kind of team are we going to be when we aren't making those outside shots. That is something we have to figure out. Tomorrow we have to get back and build up a wall against a St. Cloud team that is super athletic and can go up and down the court."

The Huskies made just one of their first 11 shot attempts to trail 17-2 midway through the first half. Trent Bell made a block and a defensive stop and Jalen Carter grabbed a steal and subsequent score but the singular efforts failed to spark the offense.

Owen White connected for Michigan Tech's first 3-pointer of the game with 4:36 to play and Adam Hobson added another just before halftime with the Huskies behind 32-18. UMD shot 42.9-percent through 20 minutes. Drew Blair had nine points as the Bulldogs collected 18 points in the paint.

Minnesota Duluth continued to play stifling defense in the second half as Michigan Tech's shooting woes continued. The Bulldogs forced 15 total Tech turnovers and out-rebounded the Huskies 34-29.

Using a balanced scoring attack, Drew Blair led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Joshua Brown shot 6-10 for 14 points and Austin Andrews posted 11 points for UMD.

The Huskies connected on 15 of 49 field goals (30.6-percent), including 5 of 21 (23.8-percent) from beyond the arc. Conversely, Minnesota Duluth collected 36 points in the paint and shot 51.9-percent overall (28-54). The Bulldogs were successful on 8 of 20 attempts from 3-point range (40-percent).

Owen White led the Huskies with nine points, followed by Trent Bell (eight points), Adam Hobson (seven points), and Eric Carl (five points). Bright spots off the bench for Tech included Carter (two steals) and Devin Schmitz (one steal).

Michigan Tech (2-2, 0-0 GLIAC) plays St. Cloud State (3-3, 0-1 NSIC) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the SDC Gymnasium. Minnesota Duluth (5-0, 1-0 NSIC) continues with Northern Michigan Sunday at 11 a.m. in Marquette.
