Bulldog Softball Falls In Two Tight League Road Contests To Purdue Northwest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad battled Purdue Northwest in a pair of tightly-contested matchups on Saturday (April 23) in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs fell in the opener 6-4 before dropping a 2-1 decision in the nightcap in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Pride got off to a strong start in the opener, totaling five runs in the first, before FSU eventually trimmed the margin to 5-4 in the top of the fifth. However, Purdue Northwest responded with a run in the bottom of the inning and held off FSU in the final two innings of play.

Ferris State outhit PNW 7-5 with the trio of Paige Kortz, Kylie Winkels and Ali Magiera all totaling two hits apiece. Magiera doubled and drove in a run while the Bulldogs also got RBI's from Winkels and Abby Mitchell.

FSU's Kristina Baar threw two-thirds of an inning with no earned runs allowed and no hits with two walks. She gave way to Kristie Gray, who tossed the final five and one-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on five hits with two strikeouts.

In game two, the Bulldogs took the initial lead by scoring in the top of the fourth, but the Pride answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and the 2-1 score stood up the rest of the way. FSU again had seven hits to five for the Pride.

Ferris State's seven hits came from seven different batters with Kaitlyn Orme posting a double in the game and Kortz compiling the lone RBI.

The Bulldogs' Aryn Gallacher threw all six innings for FSU in the circle and allowed two runs on five hits with two K's.

Ferris State will be back in action on Sunday (April 24), visiting Parkside for a league doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
