Volleyball Falls in a Road Match to Northern Michigan

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State volleyball team fell in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 5 by a final score of 3-0. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 2-11 in conference play after losing the match by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-8. 

The Lakers had a strong start in the opening set as the team took a 7-2 lead over the Wildcats. Sophomore Emilee McDaniel led the team with two kills in the stretch. The Wildcats responded with five straight points to tie the set at 7-7. In the following stretch of play, the Lakers took a 13-10 lead but Northern Michigan would answer with six straight points later in the set to pull ahead 21-17. After the Lakers came back within two points (21-19), the Wildcats scored the final four points to take the opening set, 25-19. 

In the second set, play was even through the first 12 points as the Lakers and Wildcats were tied at 6-6. Lake Superior State scored seven of eight points in the action that followed to take a 14-10 lead over Northern. The play remained close between the two GLIAC teams as the Lakers trailed by one point (20-19) but the Wildcats finished strong to take the set by a score of 25-19. 

The Wildcats dominated the third, and final, set as the home team went ahead 11-0 to open the set. The Lakers were unable to overcome the deficit and fell by a final score of 25-8. 

Stat Leaders: Senior Camdyn Odykirk led the team in kills with seven on 14 attempts to total a team-leading .429 kill percentage in the match. Junior setter Emily Kalinowski registered 17 of the team's 19 assists in the game. Freshman Ally Lasley led the team in digs with eight.
