Bulldog Volleyball Opens Season With Decisive Home Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad claimed a decisive 3-0 win over Ohio Dominican as the Bulldogs opened their 2019 slate on Thursday (Sept. 5) evening at home inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

FSU rolled to a 25-13, 25-19, 25-12 triumph in regional action over the Panthers as the two teams opened competition in the annual Ferris State Invitational, which continues on Friday and Saturday in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 12 kills and 10 digs from outside hitter Katie O'Connell along with 10 kills from senior Courtney Brewer. Meanwhile, both senior Allyson Cappel and sophomore Samantha Hermann had six kills apiece.

Ferris State's Maeve Grimes directed the attack with 31 assists and added nine digs while Cappel also had nine digs. Lauren Helsen posted a team-leading 12 digs in the win.

Overall, FSU hit .273 for the match and came up with 41 kills and only 14 attack errors on 99 total attempts. FSU also had eight service aces to go with six block assists, three solo blocks and 52 total digs.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 6) with a 6:30 p.m. (ET) tilt versus McKendree (Ill.) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
