Postgame Highlights Video

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad jumped in front early and held on down the stretch for a 60-57 road victory over Michigan Tech on Friday (Jan. 29) at the Student Development Complex Gymnasium in Houghton.

The Bulldogs opened up a 23-18 halftime lead and pushed the margin to double-digits in the second half before the Huskies rallied late. FSU converted six free throws in the final 45 seconds to preserve the victory.

The win marked FSU's first triumph on a Friday this season after previously dropping the opening game of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend matchup each of the last three weeks before bouncing back to win the following day.

Additionally, the win came over a Michigan Tech squad that entered the game atop the GLIAC with a 6-1 league mark prior to the setback.

Senior guard Walt Kelser finished with 16 points for the Bulldogs while sophomore forward Vejas Grazulis added 12 points. Sophomore wing Deng Reng and senior center Logan Ryan each added eight points with senior forward Michael Peterson contributing seven points.

Ferris State shot only 34% from the floor and was four-of-14 (28.6%) from long range, but also went 20-of-29 (69%) at the free throw line.

Michigan Tech got a game-high 24 points from Dawson Bilski with Owen White adding 18 points in the loss. The Huskies converted at a 38.8% clip and made seven-of-23 (30.4%) three's in addition to 12-of-18 (66.7%) free throws.

Overall, the Bulldogs were slightly outrebounded 37-36, but FSU also had 10 offensive caroms to only seven for Michigan Tech. The Huskies also turned the ball over 16 times, which doubled FSU's eight miscues in the game.

The two teams will meet again in the weekend finale on Saturday (Jan. 30) with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET) in Houghton. Visit FerrisStateBulldogs.com for complete coverage links.
