Winter Haven, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (17-3 overall) and ranked No. 8 nationally this week recorded a 5-0 shutout of LIU Post (3-3) Thursday afternoon as part of the Rebel Spring Games.

Redshirt freshman hurler Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) tallied her sixth complete game shutout of the season by limiting the Pioneers to two hits.  Butler struck out 14 and walked four.  The 14 K's marked the fourth straight outing for Butler with a double-digit strikeout total and sixth of the campaign.

Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) led off the bottom of the first with a walk on a 3-2 offering.  After a fielder's choice, Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) stole second before Butler worked a walk.  A Pioneer fielding error loaded the bases, and Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova College) ripped a 1-0 offering into right field for a two-run double.

WSU added an insurance run in the fourth as Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) had a leadoff walk.  Following a strikeout, pinch-runner Catherine Rayos (Warren, Mich. / Mott) stole second and moved to third on a single by Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.).  Devin Hentschel (Wyoming, Mich. / Rogers) doubled to left center scoring Rayors.

The Warriors completed the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Hentschel had a one-out single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Buchanan.  White tripled to left center scoring Hentschel, then scored on a throwing error.

White extended her hitting streak to team active best eight games, while Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) extended her on-base streak to a WSU season-best 13 games.

Hentschel was the lone Warrior with multiple hits in the contest.

Wayne State has four games remaining on its spring break trip including matches against No. 18 Caldwell and Concordia (MN)-St. Paul on Friday morning.
