Second Half Flurry Blasts #23 Bulldogs Past Pride

Hammond, In. - The nationally #23-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team ran its win streak to five consecutive games with a 6-1 win over the Purdue Northwest Pride on Sunday (Sept. 19) at Pepsi Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Bulldog senior Bri Rogers scored twice while senior Grace VerHage kept her hot stretch alive, scoring her fifth goal in her last three outings in addition to adding an assist.

The Bulldogs got on the board first when VerHage netted her fifth goal of the season in traffic at 6:37 of the contest. Junior Katie Nestico tacked on her third assist of the season on the goal as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead.

Purdue Northwest answered at 17:10, busting Ferris State's fourth-longest shutout streak in school history at just over 401 minutes when Reannah Soto scored off a free kick into the top right corner.

In the second half, Ferris State stepped on the gas. Senior Pia Nagel fired in the eventual game-winner and her fourth goal of the season. Seniors Abigail Gilmore (1) and Grace VerHage (3) picked up assists on the play only 3:52 into the second half to put FSU in front by a 2-1 margin.

On the goal, Nagel extended her school record for career game-winning goals to 13, two ahead of the next highest in program history (Emily Rogers).

Soon after, only 32 seconds after Nagel's goal, Rogers flew in a cross in that banked off a PNW defender for her second goal of the season to give FSU a 3-1 edge.

Ferris State freshman Lindsay Cole fired in her first collegiate goal on a corner kick, curling it inside the far goal post at 62:01 to make it a 4-1 Bulldog lead.

Less than eight minutes later, at 69:33, Rogers broke free for Ferris State and drifted a low shot for the bottom left corner on the breakaway for and her second goal of the afternoon and third goal of the year.

In the final minute, junior Payton Price ripped a shot under the crossbar for the 6-1 final and her third goal of the campaign

In goal for the Bulldogs, freshman Darya Mosallaei moved to 5-1-0, making four saves in the process. Bridget Grady took the loss for the Pride, making seven stops on the afternoon.

Ferris State held at 21-8 lead in shots with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Ferris State attemped six corner kicks and held the Pride to one attempt on the day.

On the year, Ferris State has outscored opponents 24-2 with a 139-32 edge in total shots.

The Bulldogs have only one contest this coming week, which is a Friday (Sept. 24) road trip to take on the Northwood Timberwolves in GLIAC play with the contest set to begin at 2:30 p.m. (ET) in Midland.
