Men's Basketball Set to Open GLIAC Play at Home This Week

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State University men's basketball team will open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Thursday, Dec. 5 against the No. 10 Ashland University at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec 7 against Wayne State at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be held in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. 

The Lakers

Coming into this weekend, the Lakers are in the midst of a two-game win streak as well as a 3-3 overall record. The Lakers have been led on offense by senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins who has 91 points on the year. Collins also leads the Lakers in shooting percentage (49.2) as well as rebounds per game (6.2). The Lakers are also led by sophomore guard C.J. Robinson who leads his team in steals per game (1.5) and averages 10.2 points a game. Sophomore guard Justin Fischer leads the Lakers with four assists a game. The Lakers are led in blocks by sophomore forward Ashton Sherrell. Junior guard Brandon Allen leads the Lakers from the three-point line (13-26). 

#10 Ashland Eagles (6-0)

The undefeated Ashland Eagles are led by their senior center Drew Noble who is averaging close to 20 points a game. Noble also averages 6.3 rebounds a game. Leading the Eagles in rebounding is redshirt-junior Aaron Thompson who averages 7.5 per outing. The Eagles shoot an impressive 54.1% from the field as a team. Ashland is coached by John Ellenwood who is in his 11th year as the Eagles head coach and is second all-time in wins in Ashland history. 

Wayne State Warriors (3-1)

Wayne State is currently on a three game winning streak including all three games being played on the road. Brialen Neely leads the Warriors in points on the year with 75. Karim Murray leads his squad with 8.5 per game. The Warriors are averaging 71.8 points per game and are coached by the 18 year veteran David Greer.

Up Next 

The Lakers will host #23 Ferris State and a non-conference game against Indianapolis on December 14 and 17 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The game against Ferris State will be at 3:00pm and the game against Indianapolis will be at 7:00pm.
