Cardinals close regular season with loss to Bulldogs

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team played the final game of the regular season in the second of two at Ferris State University Saturday in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals fell in three sets to the Bulldogs, 25-20-, 25-11, 25-18, and will now turn their focus to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament next weekend, hosted by SVSU.

The Cardinal attack was led by reigning GLIAC North Division Player of the Week Maria Vukaj with eight kills. She added a team-high 14 digs on the defensive side. Rylee Zimmer finished with seven kills and 13 digs, while Peyton Gerstacker and Juliana Dunning recorded 12 and 11 assists, respectively.

Katie O'Connell led the Bulldogs with a match-high 11 kills, while Kaylee Maat added 32 assists.

SVSU will host the 2021 GLIAC Volleyball Tournament April 9-11. The games will be played on two courts at O'Neill Arena and Hamilton Gymnasium. The bracket for the tournament will be announced when available.
