Warriors Defeat Dragons, 82-70, For Eighth Straight Victory


DETROIT - Wayne State University guards Cole Prophet (Sandusky, Ohio) and Stacey Waters (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) combined for 50 points on 17-of-38 shooting as the Warriors (8-1, 5-0 GLIAC) extended their winning streak to eight games with an 82-70 victory over Tiffin University (4-8, 0-6 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.

Prophet poured in a career-high 26 points and dished out eight assists, both career-highs.  Waters had a season-best 24 points with five rebounds as the Warriors defeated the Dragons for the 11th time in as many meetings.

Utilizing only six players all afternoon, Wayne State trailed by one at halftime but outscored Tiffin, 46-33, in the second half.

The game was relatively close most of the way, with 11 lead changes and eight tie scores.

After falling behind, 19-13, midway through the first half, the Warriors went on a 14-3 run sparked by eight points from Prophet.  The Dragons fought back, however, to take a 37-36 lead into the locker room.

The back-and-forth action continued in the second half, as Wayne State opened up with a six-point run before falling behind again by four.  Down 53-52 with 9:47 left, Prophet hit a three-pointer and the Warriors led for the remainder of the contest.

Ian Larkin (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) finished with 11 points and tied his season-high with nine rebounds.  Ike Udanoh (Detroit, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) led the Warriors with 11 rebounds.

Wayne State will close out the calendar year on the road, facing the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Dec. 29 and Lewis University on New Year's Eve.
