SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.-- Madison Thompson finished with a match-best 12 kills and had a season's best .524 attack percentage to pace the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team to a sweep of host Lake Superior State University, 26-24, 25-18, 25-22, on Friday afternoon in the James Norris Center.

It was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for both squads as the Cardinals improve to 5-4 overall while the Lakers drop to 1-8.

How it Happened:

• Thompson finished with just one error in 24 attack attempts. 
• Saginaw Valley enjoyed advantages in kills (43-35), attack percentage (.269 to .143), assists (39-32), service aces (7-4), and digs (48-41).
• Makaylah Roberts also contributed to an efficient SVSU offense with a .421 hitting percentage on nine kills.
• LSSU staved off three set points in the opening frame before SVSU finished it off with kills from Rylee Zimmer (8 kills, 9 digs) and Sarah Veale to win 26-24.
• In the second set, the SVSU defense held the Lakers to just a minus-.040 attack percentage win 25-18. The Cardinals had 11 kills while Lake State had six.
• In the third set, it was the offense's turn as the Cardinals outhit the home team .324 to .182.

Inside the Box Score:

• Emilee McDaniel (.526) and Mariana Velasque (.167) both had 11 kills to lead the LSSU offense.
• Sarah Veale led the SVSU defense with 13 digs and was one kill away from recording a double-double. She also had two blocks and two aces.
• Lake State's Ally Lasley led all student-athletes with 14 digs.
• Peyton Gerstacker posted a match-high 36 assists while chipping in with eight digs, four kills and two aces.
