Allendale, Mich. - In what was an instant classic played in driving snow, the nationally 24th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match with a 1-0 win over the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Friday (Nov. 12) at the GVSU Soccer Field.

Ferris State freshman Lindsay Cole netted the winner with just 6:11 remaining. It was Cole's third goal of the campaign, and her second straight game-winner.

Both squads battled the elements and uneven footing as the field was coated in slush and snow prior to kickoff. With a stiff breeze blowing in the face of the Bulldogs in the first half, the Cardinals had a 6-5 advantage in shot attempts through 45 minutes of play.

However, Ferris State flipped the field and outshot Saginaw Valley 12-3 in the second frame and pushed for a late tally.

It finally came at 83:51 when junior Isabella Zamborini sprung Cole down the right side of the box. Cole got in behind the Cardinal defense and laced a low shot for the back left of the frame as it beat the diving SVSU keeper, Olivia Argeros, for the 1-0 lead. Zamborini picked up her sixth assist of the year on the play.

Ferris State fought off the final minutes as SVSU committed numbers up the field but could not find the equalizer. The Dawgs outshot the Cardinals 12-2 in shots on goal, scoring on their final shot on goal of the night.

In goal for Ferris State, freshman goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei broke the all-time single-season school shutout record (10), passing Grace Kraft (2016) for the mark as the Bulldogs advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Championship.

Ferris State will face nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday (Nov. 14) for the third time this season. The two squads have tied both matches on the year and will play for the second time in seven days after capping the regular season with a 1-1 tie in Big Rapids on Nov. 7.

Sunday's league tournament title contest is slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) start in Allendale.
