Second-half flurry pushes Parkside past SVSU

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team closed its weekend series against the University of Wisconsin Parkside Saturday in Kenosha, Wis.

The Cardinals took a three-point lead into the break, but the Rangers ran away with the contest in the second half to top SVSU 73-57. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-7 overall and 2-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Parkside fell behind by seven points early in the first half, but the Rangers put together a 13-2 run to take the lead. The Cardinals were unable to respond and Parkside

SVSU was led by 24 points, including 18 in the first half, from Delano Smith on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. Myles Belyeu added 14 points, while Zane Foster finished with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 21-of-53 from the field, 4-of-28 from deep and 11-of-19 at the line. SVSU recorded six assists, seven steals and 12 turnovers.

Tray Croft scored a game-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers, to pace the Rangers (6-3, 6-3 GLIAC).

The Cardinals travel to Michigan Tech for two GLIAC matchups next weekend starting at 3 pm Friday in Houghton, Mich.
