Chargers pick up another regional victory in 6-1 win over Purdue Northwest

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team continued its strong start to the spring campaign by rolling past host Purdue Northwest for a 6-1 victory on Saturday at the Park Forest Tennis & Health Club in Park Forest, Illinois.

The Chargers seized the momentum in the match early by winning a hard-fought doubles point. Hillsdale's No. 3 doubles team of Tyler Conrad and Daniel Gilbert won a 7-4 tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point after the Chargers' No. 1 doubles team of Brennan Cimpeanu and Sean Barstow also pulled out a hard-fought 6-4 victory.

After taking doubles by a narrow margin to take a 1-0 lead, Hillsdale dominated singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Freshman Aidan Pack continued a strong start to his Chargers career with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Purdue Northwest's Luca Kirchhoff, while senior Brian Hackman beat the Pride's Joao Martins 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles as well.

At No. 4 singles, Conrad rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 win for the Chargers over Luis Alvear, Barstow won a dominant 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 5 singles over Levent Evyapan, and Gilbert beat Paul Hawes 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles as well.

The Chargers are now 5-1 overall and 3-1 against Midwest Region foes, with their only loss coming to nationally ranked Ferris State. Hillsdale will look to continue rolling against regional competition at home on Sunday, as the Chargers host Michigan Tech at 12 p.m. for a match.
