Ferris State Claims GLIAC North Championship While Earning First-Round Home Game With Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad pulled away for a 72-62 victory over Northern Michigan in the regular-season finale on Saturday (Feb. 26), earning the GLIAC North Division Championship and a first-round home contest for the upcoming conference tournament.

With the triumph, FSU received the second seed for the GLIAC Tournament and will host Saginaw Valley State in quarterfinal-round play on Wednesday (March 2) night at 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.

On Senior Day, the Bulldogs outscored NMU 17-8 in the second quarter and 26-15 in the third after NMU had built a six-point lead after the opening 10 minutes of play. From there, the Bulldogs held on down the stretch for the win to close the regular-season at 19-9 overall and 13-7 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State got 20 points off the bench from sophomore Kadyn Blanchard to go with 16 points each by senior Zoe Anderson and junior Chloe Idoni in the victory.

The Bulldogs turned the ball over only seven times in the game and outrebounded NMU 35-33 for the contest while shooting 41% from the floor and nine-of-22 (40.9%) from long range. FSU also went 13-of-16 (81.3%) at the free throw line.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats shot 46.3% overall, but had 13 turnovers and were outscored 10-0 on the offensive glass by the Bulldogs. FSU also held a 14-5 margin in points off turnovers and a 26-16 edge inside the paint.

Northern Michigan converted only four-of-11 (36.4%) three's and went eight-of-14 (57.1%) from the free throw stripe.

The Wildcats were paced by Elena Alaix with 21 points and Ana Rhude, who finished with 10 points but played only 10 minutes due to foul trouble.

NMU dropped to 12-15 overall and 7-13 in the league with the setback.

Following the contest, the Bulldogs honored a trio of seniors in Zoe Anderson along with Adrienne Anderson and Sam Krauss following their final regular-season home game.
