Volleyball Swept at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (7-4, 1-2 GLIAC) lost in three sets at Parkside (6-5, 1-2 GLIAC) on Friday afternoon.  The Rangers won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A service ace from Sam Palazzolo (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) put the visitors on top 5-4 early in the first set.  UWP led 9-7 after a 3-0 rally and the home advantage grew to 16-9 following a 7-1 run.  Back to-back aces by Kendyl Andrews (Flushing, Mich.) brought the Green & Gold within six, 22-16, but WSU fell 25-16.

Parkside started fast in the second set, leading 5-1.  A kill by Lauren VanderWal (Caledonia, Mich.) gave the Warriors an 8-7 lead.  After the Rangers led 10-8, Wayne State used a 5-0 rally to go in front 13-10.  Later in the set, UWP answered with a 10-1 run to make it 21-15.  With Parkside leading 24-19, WSU used an error, a block by Halle Shell (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) and Kamryn Duffield (Romeo, Mich.) plus a kill from Shell to trim the margin to 24-22.  However, the Rangers would go up 2-0 with a 25-22 victory.

Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) put Wayne State up 5-3 to start the third set.  The game was tied at 7-7 but Parkside would go on another extended scoring rally to take a 14-7 lead.  Kills from Keilyn Carpenter (Vermontville, Mich. / Maple Valley) and Jenna Kray (Westerville, Ohio / Worthington Christian) made it 19-16 in favor of the Rangers but UWP would regain control and held onto a 24-17 lead.  Three Parkside errors brought the Green & Gold within four, 24-20, but the home team completed the sweep with a 25-20 set-three triumph.
