Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The 14th-ranked Wayne State University baseball program (27-9 overall, 11-6 GLIAC) started a four-game series at Parkside (7-25 overall, 3-15 GLIAC) on Friday and the Warriors won game one 5-0 before falling 2-1 in game two.

GAME ONE (W, 5-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED

Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) doubled to center to lead off the top of the first inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) to give WSU an early 1-0 lead.  The Warriors extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning on another sac fly RBI from DeLanoy.

DeLanoy tallied his third RBI of the game with a single through the right side in the top of the fifth inning.

Hunter Brown (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) (7-0) continued to keep the Rangers quiet in the sixth inning with the help of a 6-4-3 double play.  A UWP error allowed WSU's fourth run of the game to score in the top of the seventh inning and bases-loaded hit-by-pitch with Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) at the plate pushed WSU's advantage to 5-0.

Brown worked around a single and two walks in the bottom of the seventh inning to hang another zero and collect his third shutout of the season.

AT THE PLATE
Wayne State finished with just three hits but drew four walks and were plunked on three occasions.  DeLanoy drove in three runs to power the offense.

ON THE MOUND
Brown struck out 10 and did not allow a run in seven innings.  It is the fourth time this season he has struck 10 or more batters and he lowers his season ERA to 1.74.

GAME TWO (L, 1-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the the top of the third inning, Zach Girard (Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee Crown) singled to center, stole second and then reached third base on a sac bunt from Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline).  A fly out to center field allowed Girard to score and stake the Green & Gold to a 1-0 lead.

In his first start with the Warriors, Matt Krutsch (Essex, Ont.) (0-1) allowed a run on two hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The Rangers took a 2-1 lead with a run on one hit and a WSU error in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Foley sent a one-out single into center in the top of the ninth inning and Finkbeiner by reached via a fielding error but that would be all the offense WSU could muster as Parkside pulled off the upset.
