Titans Have Little Trouble In Victory Over Division II Wildcats

Kobe Berghammer threw for three touchdowns and Mitch Gerhartz added a rushing score as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh football team built a 21-0 lead late in the second quarter and went on to defeat NCAA Division II member Northern Michigan University, 28-10, Saturday (Sept. 11) at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0), ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by D3football.com, has now won two of its last three matchups with Division II programs. The Titans split a pair of road games against Division II foes in 2018, downing Lincoln University of Missouri by a 17-7 score and falling to Davenport University (Mich.), 7-3.

On Saturday the Titans opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Berghammer to Justin Kasuboski on their first possession, extended the lead to 14-0 via a 13-yard Berghammer to Trae Tetzlaff scoring strike early in the second quarter and built a 21-0 advantage on Gerhartz's 1-yard touchdown run at the 3:50 mark of the second period.

Northern Michigan University cut its deficit to 21-3 before halftime on a 35-yard Daniel Riser field goal and pulled with 21-10 with 5:45 left during the third quarter following a 27-yard touchdown pass from Drake Davis to Benjamin Loutsis. However, the Titans squelched any chance of a Wildcats comeback when Berghammer connected with Kasuboski once again for a 2-yard touchdown pass that capped the scoring with 8:17 remaining in the game.

The teams exchanged punts on the next three possessions before a 10-play, 58-yard UW-Oshkosh drive concluded with Tetzlaff's lone catch of the game going for a 13-yard touchdown from Berghammer.

Yet another Wildcats punt on the ensuing possession preceded a six-play, 74-yard drive UW-Oshkosh drive highlighted by two Berghammer completions for 35 total yards, a pair of Berghammer rushes for another 13 yards ahead of Gerhartz's 1-yard plunge into the end zone with just under four minutes to play before halftime.
