Dragons Cruise Past Lakers for Seventh Straight Win

The Tiffin University baseball team defeated Grand Valley State 11-0 to sweep the Lakers and continue their winning streak.

The Dragons record improves to 9-1 overall while the Lakers fall to 3-6 overall.

Tiffin opened the scoring in the top of the second inning as Danny Donnelly singled to center field with the bases loaded to score two runners. Then Nich Green came to the mound with the bases loaded and hit a single to center field to bring in Donnelly and Jake Shier. Tommy Thamann then singled to right field to score Zach Campbell from third to lead 5-0.

Marino Pugnetti tripled to center field and scored on a passed ball to the next batter to give the Dragons a 6-0 lead.  

The Dragons added four more in the sixth inning as a Shier homer started the inning. With runners on second and third, Nich Green doubled to right field scoring Donnelly, then Thamann grounded out to second base to allow Kyle Vance to score. Finally, Pugnetti singled to right field to score Green from third to lead 10-0.

Pugnetti homered in the top of the eighth to seal the 11-0 win for the Dragons. 

Marino Pugnetti went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and scored two runs. Nich Green went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored one run. 

Tyler Wehrle got his second win of the season. He pitched 6.0 shutout innings, struck out five, and allowed three hits.
