Lexie Khon Scores Her 1000th Career Point but the Lakers Fall to Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies by a final score of 75-61 on Saturday, Feb. 15 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up at the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. 

Mattison Rayman scored the first four points of the game for the Lakers as she recorded a jump shot and a layup in the first three minutes of play. Abigail Ostman even the game at five when she made a free throw.

Lexie Khon would give the Lakers an 8-5 when she made a three point jump shot at 6:34 of the first quarter. With the three points, Khon recorded her 1000th career point, becoming the 22nd player in Laker women's basketball history to reach the milestone. 

Claire Radtke would give the Lakers their first lead of the game when she made a shot from outside for three for a 11-8 advantage. The Huskies would then record the next eight points to go ahead 16-11. Khon and Mackenzie Kalchik would respond with four points for the Lakers in the next stretch of play. The first ten minutes of play would end with the Lakers trailing the Huskies 19-15. 

In the second quarter, the Huskies offense took over the game as they posted 25 points compared to the 13 points from the Lakers. The Lakers would head into the second half of the game trailing 44-28. 

In the final two quarters of play, the Lakers outscored the Huskies by a 33-31 margin but the  lead that Tech built in the first half proved to be enough to secure the win. The Lakers comeback effort was strong, however, with the team recording 20 points in the final quarter, led by Ostman who had eight points for the Lakers. 

Ostman had a solid game for the Lakers finishing with 16 points, two rebounds and an assist. Khon, in her milestone game, put up 14 points as well as a team high nine rebounds. Rayman rounded out the Lakers top three point scorers in the game with 11 and posted eight rebounds against the Huskies.
