Cardinals win 7th straight, sweep Pride

HAMMOND, Ind. — It's a lucky seven for the Saginaw Valley State University women's volleyball team as the visiting Cardinals won their seventh-straight with a convincing 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 win over Purdue Northwest on Saturday at the PNW Fitness and Recreation Center.

Saginaw Valley improves to 8-4 on the season and 4-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pride, meanwhile, fall even to 6-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

How it Happened:

  • Madison Thompson notched nine kills to lead all attackers for the SVSU offense which outhit the hosts .219 to .100.
  • Teammates Rylee Zimmer (.286) and Sarah Veale (.200) chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.
  • SVSU also enjoyed statistical advantages in team blocks (7-3) and service aces (11-5).
  • Zimmer led the Cardinals with 12 digs and had two blocks, while Veale contributed four aces to match her season's best and eight digs.
  • Peyton Gerstacker led the SVSU offense with 20 assists while also getting three kills.
  • Elizabeth Bruschuk had a career-best five aces and made six digs to help the Cardinal cause.
  • The Cardinals finished strong by hitting .300 in the final set, recording 14 kills against just two errors in 40 attack attempts.
