Ferris State Softball Earns Season-Opening Shutout Victory At Lewis Dome Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad opened the 2021 campaign on Thursday (Feb. 18) night against Lindenwood (Mo.) with a 3-0 shutout victory at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the opening inning on an RBI single from Kaitlyn Orme.

The score stood until the bottom of the sixth when FSU tacked on two more runs. Orme tripled in the inning to score Kylie Winkels for the first run and then scored on her own off an RBI single from Taylor Buiter.

In the seventh, the Bulldogs put the Lions down in order to secure the season-opening win.

Orme totaled a squad-best two hits with two RBI's and a run scored in three at-bats for the Bulldogs.

In the pitching circle, FSU's Mckenzie Cleland tossed all seven innings and allowed no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks in the triumph.

Overall, Ferris State was outhit 4-3 for the game, but Lindenwood also had two errors in the field to none for the Bulldogs.

FSU will be back in action with two more games on Friday (Feb. 19) at the Lewis Dome Invitational, taking on Quincy (Ill.) and Ursuline in regional action at 12 p.m. (ET) and 2:30 p.m. (ET), respectively. The Bulldogs then play their final two games on Saturday in the three-day event.

The seventh annual Lewis Dome Invitational is taking place at The Dome, which is located at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
