Bulldogs Fall In Defensive Battle to Eagles

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally #17-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Ashland Eagles in non-league action on Friday (September 2) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs held a 16-12 advantage in shots, but were stymied by the Eagle defense in the home opener. Ashland took a 1-0 lead 3:19 into the second half when McKinley Mendenhall finished off a chance in tight for AU.

In goal, Ferris State sophomore goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei made three stops, matching Ashland's Brianna Rogers in total saves. Rogers picked up the clean sheet and her first win of the year on the day.

The Eagles held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal for the day. Ferris State got four shots out of senior Brinley Bell, who led all players in total shots. Freshman Avery Comartin and junior Jessie Bandyk each notched three shots for the Bulldogs as well.

Ferris State's second of a four-game home stand is set for Sunday (Sept. 4) against the Walsh Cavaliers at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET) between the Bulldogs and Cavaliers before Ferris State enters conference play next weekend against West Michigan rivals Grand Valley State and Davenport.
