SVSU posts 5-2 victory over Ashland in league match

MIDLAND -- The Cardinal Women's Tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over the Ashland University Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 12) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. SVSU took two of the three doubles matchups and continued to win four in singles for the GLIAC win.

Doubles

Joanne Gao and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez teamed-up for a 6-1 win at the #2 doubles spot for one of the victories while Nicole Johnson and Adiya Young grinded-out a 7-6 win at the #3 doubles position. 

Singles

Miller won her match at #1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Gao had a three-set victory by counts of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Taylor McLaughlin won her matchup at #3 singles by scores of 6-4, 6-1 for the fourth point on the home team's side. Johnson clinched the win for the Cardinals at #6 singles with scores of 6-3, 6-4, giving Saginaw Valley the 5-2 win. 

Sara Neves had a three-set match, dropping a close one to her opponent at #5 singles 1-6, 7-6, 5-7.
