EARLY SEASON RANKING RECOGNITION & TOP-25 NOTES
The Golden Bears have now been featured in a national poll for three straight years, drawing "also considered" status in the February 14 and February 21 versions of the Nike/USA Lacrosse Top-20 Division II rankings. Concordia opened the 2021 season ranked 16th in the Nike/USA Lacrosse poll and remained ranked in the top-20 the first three weeks before slipping to the receiving votes column in the March 15 poll.

The IWLCA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, the default rankings used on cspbears.com, has not released an in-season poll yet following the release of its preseason top-25 on January 31.

CSP has been featured in both polls the previous two years, and has eight games on the current schedule against IWLCA Top-25 programs, giving the team a chance to score some nationally-ranked victories throughout the season.

So far, CSP is 0-2 against IWLCA Top-25 squads, falling 10-9 to #9 Regis in the season opener and 20-13 to #1 Lindenwood, defending DII national champions. CSP led 8-7 in the fourth quarter at Regis, and held an 8-7 halftime lead over Lindenwood.

The Golden Bears are 1-20 all-time against national-ranked opponents, scoring their first win over a ranked team on February 21, 2020 at home against #14 Colorado Mesa (15-4). They've been within five goals four times including once this year. CSP has dropped its last seven against ranked opponents and currently has six opponents ranked in the IWLCA Top-25 on the remaining schedule.

LAST TIME OUT: CSP SPLITS HOME OPENING WEEKEND
The Golden Bears scored a 20-5 victory in their home opener against Quincy University at the Concordia Dome last Friday night as four different players posted 5-plus points with freshman Maddy Seifert putting up career-highs of five goals and six points while Molly Moynihan matched her career-high of six points with a goal and a school record tying five assists.

Delaney Davidson notched five goals and Erica Peterson had career-highs with two goals and three assists.

In the win, Concordia didn't allow Lewis to put together back-to-back goals at any point in the contest, and the Golden Bears played well with the lead, securing an 11-1 margin in second half draw controls.

Maddy Huebner allowed just four goals in 45 minutes while Candace McDole surrendered only one goal in 15 minutes.

In the second game of the weekend, Concordia once again put together a strong run at a top-10 early season upset, as CSP scored first and held an early 3-1 lead over the #1 Lions, defending national champions.

From there, Lindenwood grabbed its first lead with three straight goals but the Golden Bears strung together its own three goal run to end the first half with an 8-7 advantage.

The Golden Bears managed to bring a 1-goal lead into the break despite being nearly doubled-up on the draw, 11-6.

In the second half, that difference was magnified further, as Lindenwood secured eight of the nine third quarter draws and eight of the 11 in the fourth quarter – a 16-4 second half margin for a 27-10 final tally.

The result led to more Lindenwood scoring chances, allowing the Lions to slowly mount a lead that the clock would render insurmountable for CSP with the draw controls going in Lindenwood's favor.

The Lions closed the game out by scoring five of the final seven goals in the fourth quarter.

Mary Keating led CSP with four goals and three draw controls while Molly Moynihan, Hailey Hartlage and Delaney Davidson each had two goal games.

Candace McDole stood up to the challenge, saving 13 shots in the loss while facing 47 total shots.

Overall on the weekend, Davidson led Concordia with seven goals while Seifert had six and matched Davdison's seven points, with Molly Moynihan leading the club with eight points on three goals and five assists. Keating and Peterson each contributed six points and nine players had at least two points on the weekend.

EARLY SEASON LEADERS
Delaney Davidson's 11 goals leads Concordia through four games, and ranks 12th in the country while Molly Moynihan's nine goals are second on the team and in the top-30 in Division II. Moynihan is second on the team and in the GLIAC with six assists, ranking 12th in the country, just one assist behind team leader Erica Peterson who leads the league and is sixth in the nation with seven assists through four games.

Moynihan's 15 points is a team-high on a balanced roster with eight players scoring at least seven points.

In the net, Candace McDole is ninth in the nation with 25 saves, with her 8.33 saves per game ranking 14th in the country. She holds a .446 save percentage in 135 minutes against 77 total shots faced (56 on goal) while Maddy Huebner has a .514 save percentage against 47 shots faced (35 on goal) in 110:52 minutes. McDole also leads the team with 13 ground balls, with the defensive unit paced by Meghan McGowan's 10 ground balls.

In the middle, draw controls have been regularly fielded by four players: Mary Keating (15), Hailey Hartlage (14), Molly Moynihan (10) and Sarah Pierson (7).

ABOUT THE MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS
The Griffons are led by first year interim head coach Jessica Berg, who was an All-American at Regis just last spring. The second year program went 5-8 last year in its inaugural season including a 3-4 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) with a pair of wins over Maryville, a win over Lewis and a win over Quincy.

They were picked to finish fifth in the eight team GLVC in the league's preseason coaches' poll with 28 points, one behind Rockhurst.

The team returns its leading scorer, Madison Brady with 62 points. Brady was second on the team with 44 goals and led the team with 18 assists. But the Griffons' second, third and fourth leading scorers are gone, with only two others, CC Langmaid (15 pts, 11g, 4a) and Jorja Schooler (14 pts, 11g, 3a) on the roster.

Goalie Mackenzie Porter also returns after starting all 13 games last year, playing 698:20 of 782:58 on the year with a .444 save percentage, 15.38 goals against average and 143 saves.

MWSU's top three performers on the draw are no longer with the program but top defenders Mariyah Harper (27gb, 12ct) and Campbell Kennedy (16gb, 17ct) return.

MWSU won its exhibition game 22-10 at home against Benedictine on February 14.

This marks the first meeting between the programs.

ABOUT THE ROCKHURST HAWKS
Concordia and Rockhurst meet for the fourth time in 2022, with the Golden Bears holding a 3-0 lead in the series, winning two close games at Rockhurst in 2017 (16-12) and 2019 (12-11) along with a 14-6 win in St. Paul in 2020.

The Hawks were picked fourth in the eight team GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 4-3 record in 2021 in conference play before falling 16-6 in the GLVC Tournament to eventual national champion Lindenwood.

Rockhurst is off to an 0-1 start to the season, falling 16-4 at home in a non-conference game to top-ranked and defending national champion Lindenwood on February 9, with their next game nearly three weeks later at CSP on Sunday.

In the season opening loss, the Lions scored the first nine goals before a late second quarter goal by RU's Logan Derosia put the Hawks on the board. Lindenwood then extended the lead with the first six goals of the second half, a 15-1 lead into the early fourth quarter. Rockhurst scored three in a row late including Derosia's second goal before Lindenwood put in the final goal with 10 seconds to play.

Dani Mabry and Addison Bradley each scored for the Hawks, and the trio compiled 10 of the team's 16 total shots on the contest.

Christine Corbin led Rockhurst with four draw controls, Madison Cook had three caused turnovers and Audrey Titzer had three ground balls. Sydney Shindler started and played the first half in goal, making nine saves and allowing nine goals before Madeline Morrison finished the game and allowed seven goals with five saves in the second half.
