Cardinal Baseball claims 9-0 shutout victory over Tiffin

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The SVSU Baseball team defeated the Tiffin University Dragons on Friday (Mar. 6) afternoon by a final score of 9-0 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida. 

The Cardinals improve to 8-4 overall on the season while the Dragons fall to 7-2 after the contest.

Joshua Riggs had an RBI single in the 3rd inning and then had another two-RBI single in the 5th, giving the Cards a 3-0 edge. 

Andrew Burke had a squeeze bunt that pushed across Brandon Scheurer in the 6th and Scheurer had a sac fly in the 8th, pushing the Cardinal lead to 5-0.

Another four runs came in the 9th, with Riggs adding another RBI, Martin Money posting two on a double and Scheurer scoring Money for the game's final run and eventual 9-0 win.

Brandon Wise (3-0) got the victory after tossing 5.1 innings, allowing five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Ryan Steinhauer got his third save in working the remaining 3.2 innings. He had six strikeouts and allowed just two hits with zero walks. 

Riggs finished with three hits and four RBI, including a double. Scheurer had two hits with two RBI and Austin Koin added two hits. Money had two RBI with his double and Burke had a hit and RBI as well.
