CSP lacrosse to host Northern Michigan in first-ever conference game

Golden Bears open GLIAC play this Saturday at noon at the Concordia Dome

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday at noon, Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (3-1) will host Northern Michigan (1-2) at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium in the program's first-ever GLIAC game.

ONLINE COVERAGE
The game will be streamed live on Concordia's GameCentral portal courtesy Stretch Internet. The high definition, one camera production through the athletic department will feature play-by-play by Dan Flanagan, Voice of the Golden Bears since 2008. The St. Paul native is a graduate of Fordham University in New York where he specialized in radio broadcasting. He'll be flanked by Alex Ross, providing insight and analysis as a second year color commentator. Ross is the head coach at Apple Valley High School since 2009 and also has experience in broadcasting at the MSHSL State Tournament level. She was the 2014 Minnesota State Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year for the Eagles.

THREE GAME WIN STREAK
Concordia enters play having matched its young program record with a three game winning streak. Coincidentally, both three game winning streaks came entirely on the road, once last year in the inaugural season before this year's spring trip vaulted the team to a 3-1 start.

On this year's three game road streak, Concordia topped a pair of established programs (Tusculum & Wingate) by slim two and one goal margins with a strong 15 goal win over a first year program (Mars Hill) in between.

SERIES HISTORY VS NMU
Concordia is 2-0 against Northern Michigan, taking a 14-8 win at Northern Michigan in the series opener before topping the Wildcats 21-6 at home a few weeks later.

In the first meeting, Kailey Heinl and Sheala Osborne each scored three goals while Kallie LaValle had a pair of goals and pair of assists with Maddie Hentges also contributing a three point game (2g, 1a). LaValle was solid on the draw with five draw controls and Sara Stickler had five caused turnovers on defense in front of Katie Lottsfeldt who made 11 saves.

In the rematch, it was Alina Boyce (6g, 1a) and Maddie Hentges (5g, 2a) who paced the offense with seven point performances while Riley Burns (3g, 2a) added five points. Kallie LaValle once again had a pair of goals and assists and five draw controls while Sheala Osborne had five caused turnovers to disrupt the NMU offense. Katie Lottsfeldt only needed to secure five saves in net.

TEAM STATS
Through non-conference play, Concordia sits 14th in the country and leads the GLIAC with 25.75 ground balls per game, ranks 33rd nationally and second in the league in scoring defense (10.50) and 20th in the country and second in the GLIAC with 7.50 assists per game.

Additionally, the program ranks among the top half of 100 ranked Division II teams statistically in caused turnovers, points per game, saves percentage, scoring margin and shots on goal.

PLAYER STATS
Individually, sophomore goalie Katie Lottsfeldt continues to be a nuisance in the crease and ranks 17th nationally and leads the GLIAC with 4.33 ground balls per game while splitting time in the net with freshman Claire Hagen who leads the GLIAC with a 66.7 save percentage and 3.57 goals against average.

Junior Sheala Osborne has also been disruptive, ranking sixth in the GLIAC with 2.75 ground balls per game and seventh with 1.75 caused turnovers per game while adding six points (3g, 3a).

Leading the charge offensively has been sophomore Maddie Hentges with 13 points (8g, 5a), a consistent producer with at least three points each game. She's scored at least a goal in every contest and is coming off a four goal performance against Wingate. Sophomore Alina Boyce has added 10 points on seven goals and three assists while sophomore Kailey Heinl and freshman Raelyn Korinek each have scored eight goals and added an assist.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Like Concordia, the Wildcats are in their second year as a program. Last year, Northern Michigan posted a 2-13 inaugural record, winning its first ever game 18-1 over Northland before losing the next five. The Wildcats picked up their final win 22-10 over Notre Dame (Ohio) before dropping their final eight while navigating a challenging GLIAC schedule with a first year roster.

Northern Michigan dropped a tough season opener, falling 14-13 in double overtime to Wheeling Jesuit before losing in double-digits to #3 Lindenwood (18-4). The Wildcats picked up their first win of the season last Tuesday, a 20-8 win at Notre Dame (Ohio).

Emily Dvorak leads the club with 16 points in three games, scoring 12 goals with four assists while Ellie Bahr and Graison Ringlever have each scored eight goals with an assist.

Goalie Emily Karbaum leads the club with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers while posting a 49.3 save percentage and 14.14 goals against average.
