DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (7-2 overall, 6-2 GLIAC) earned a 7-0 victory over the Davenport Panthers (1-7 overall, 1-7 GLIAC) on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) swept Bruna Ralheta and Sophie Gossett, 6-0, in their No. 2 doubles match.
Senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore
Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) partnered up at No. 3 doubles to earn a 6-2 victory against Steph Ritson and Vladislava Shumilova.
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and redshirt sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva played at the first flight, but fell short to Adeline Nelson and Hannah Murphy, 6-4.
SINGLES RESULTS
Da-Silva nearly swept Shumilova at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0).
Cazacu moved up to No. 2 singles this week, defeating Murphy (6-1, 6-0).
At third singles, Liong won her match against Ralheta (6-1, 6-1).
Kuznetsova earned a win at No. 1 singles against Nelson (6-1, 6-1).
Davenport's Ritson defaulted, giving No 6 singles player Ciellza an automatic win.
Stamate pulled out the final win for the Warriors at No. 5 singles against Gossett (6-2, 6-3).
