Bulldogs Play #3 GVSU to Deadlock in GLIAC Opener

Highlights & Postgame Comments

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with a scoreless draw against the reigning national champions and nationally #3-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers.

It was the tale of two halves for the game, as GVSU had the run of play in the opening frame, out-attempting Ferris State 4-3, while holding a 7-1 lead in corner kicks.

In the second half, Ferris State came out hard, with a 5-3 shots on goal advantage and an even 2-2 corner kick finish. On the game, both teams finished with 12 shot attempts while Ferris State had the 5-3 shots on goal edge.

For Ferris State, sophomore goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei made three key stops in the second half for her second consecutive blanking of GVSU and 14th career shutout, good for third most in program history.

In a strong performance, senior Katie Nestico fired four of Ferris State's five shots on goal, with several high end opportunities. Her flurry came in 10-minute stretch where she nearly put a header in, as well as a long range shot that was fought off of the cross bar by GVSU's Kendall Robertson. Robertson made five saves in her second draw of the year for the shutout for the Lakers.

The Bulldogs turn their attention now to the Davenport Panthers, whom Ferris State welcomes in Sunday (Sept. 11) at 1 p.m. (ET).

On Sunday, the Bulldogs will honor their 2021 Spring GLIAC Championship and 2021 Fall GLIAC Tournament Championship teams with a ring ceremony prior to the contest. The ceremony is set for 12 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Field, and fans and player families are asked to be on the field by 11:50 a.m.
