Ferris State Advances To GLIAC Women's Tennis Championship Match By Beating Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team advanced to the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match, beating longtime tennis rival Northwood 4-0 in the semifinal round on Saturday (April 24) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The top-seeded Bulldogs will now face third-seeded Grand Valley State in the women's tournament championship match on Sunday with the tilt slated for a 2:30 p.m. (ET) start outside or 1 p.m. (ET) if moved indoors.

In the Bulldogs' second win over Northwood this season, FSU started fast, beating the Timberwolves in the first two completed doubles matches to grab the initial point of the match. The number one tandem of Agata Klak and Isabela Paixao were 6-2 winners with Ferris State's third pairing of Sophie Daavettila and Brittany Lavenant earning a 6-1 win.

The middle part of the Bulldog order then lifted FSU to the victory in singles play as Paixao, Klak and Lavenant earned straight-set sweeps in the first three completed contests at three, four and five singles, respectively.

Ferris State moved to 15-1 overall this year with the win and pushed its winning streak to 15 consecutive matches.

The Bulldogs will be seeking their first GLIAC Tournament title since 2002 in Sunday's finale.
