Bulldogs' NCAA Tourney Run Comes To An End At Fifth-Ranked Indianapolis In Region Final

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad had yet another highly-successful season come to an end on Sunday (April 30) as the Bulldogs suffered a 4-0 setback to nationally fifth-ranked Indianapolis in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region final in Greenwood, Ind.

The Bulldogs, who were making their first appearance in the regional final since 2019, battled the Greyhounds tough in a highly-competitive match. Indianapolis pulled out the doubles point and completed the win by taking the first three completed singles positions overall.

"We showed lots of fight and grit today and just came up short," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "I'm very proud of the resilience of this team and the belief that anything is possible.

"We will be better in the long run because of matches like these," he added.

After taking the first two completed doubles flights that were closely-contested, Indianapolis got wins from two of the nation's top 10 singles players at the first and second spots in the linuep to go with a victory at five singles. However, FSU held the advantage and three and six singles with opportunities to pick up points in the match.

With the setback, the Bulldogs closed the year with a 16-5 overall record.

This season represented the Bulldogs' 26th all-time NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, including the eighth year in a row. FSU also won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship this campaign, finishing a perfect 6-0 in league play, and was the runner-up in the conference tournament.

The bulk of the FSU lineup is slated to return for the 2023-24 season.
