Oilers Suffer Defeat At Wayne State

The University of Findlay baseball team was defeated 5-3 and 5-4 in a double header against Wayne State on Saturday, March 24th in Detroit, Mich.

In game one, the Oilers scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning.  Riley Christian got the ball rolling with a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eric Terwilliger.  After Christian stole third and Reid Rothenbuhler walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tommy Roush, Blake Schmenk loaded the bases with Findlay's third walk of the inning to set stage for Victor Migliore who came through with a three run double. 

David Cort led the Oilers at the plate going 2-for-3.

Drew Hargrove took the loss for the Oilers giving up four runs on eight hits through 4 and 1/3 innings of work while striking out three.

In game two, the Oilers tied the game at four in the seventh when Migliore singled home Roush.  However, Wayne State would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh and score the winning run on a single up the middle.

Migliore went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and run scored whole Schmenk also had three hits with an RBI and scored a run.  Jon Shollenburger was 2-for-3 with an RBI and also scored a run.

Preston Zachrich pitched 5 and 1/3 innings allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out five.

The losses drop the Oilers overall record to 5-8 on the season.  They will be back in action tomorrow when they finish their four game series against Wayne State in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
