Ferris State's 13-Game Unbeaten Streak Ends At Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - Despite a strong push, the nationally #9 ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Michigan Tech Huskies on Sunday (Oct. 24) at Sherman Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Ferris State had an 11-2 advantage in shots in the second half, but the Huskies struck first and held on for the win.

Off a corner kick, MTU's Grace Shaw headed a ball through traffic that beat Ferris State freshman keeper Darya Mosallaei high for the eventual game-winning goal at 61:00 for the 1-0 final.

After the MTU goal, the Bulldogs pressed hard with several free kick and corner tries, but were unable to beat Michigan Tech keeper Erika Gabriel, who made five saves for the shutout victory.

For the game, Ferris State had a 17-10 lead in total shots, with a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs attempted four of their five corner tries in the second half (5-3 FSU advantage for the game).

The loss left Ferris State one win or tie short of matching the longest unbeaten streak in school history. It was also the Bulldogs' first league loss this season as they moved back to 8-1-2 in GLIAC play (11-2-2 overall). 

Ferris State's five-match and five-year winning streak against the Huskies also came to an end. Their last loss to the Huskies occured in 2016.

The Bulldogs return home to see the Northwood Timberwolves for the second time this season, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. (ET) on Friday (Oct. 29) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.
