Baseball Stumbles to Open Series at Northwood

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball program (26-10, 11-4 GLIAC) started a four-game series at Northwood (21-15-1, 7-6 GLIAC) on Friday and the Warriors fell 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Three hits in the bottom of the first inning put the Timberwolves out in front 1-0.  Northwood used three more hits in the bottom of the third to make it 2-0.

WSU surrendered four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with a three-run home run from Khale Showers providing the majority of the damage.

The Wayne State deficit grew to 8-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

A two-out error by NU and a wild pitch allowed a Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) single to plate a run and get the Green & Gold on the board.

AT THE PLATE
WSU only collected three hits and those went to Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), Foley and Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett).  NU's Derek Clark (5-2) was impressive, allowing an unearned run over nine innings with 12 Ks.

ON THE MOUND
Nicholas O'Dea (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) (2-3) allowed six runs (two earned) in six innings and struck out three batters.

Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) allowed two unearned runs in an inning of relief, while Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) worked a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout.

UP NEXT
The Warriors and Timberwolves meet twice on Saturday with game one's first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
